PageSage AI Reader - Privacy Policy

Single Purpose Statement

PageSage AI Reader is a browser extension designed to help users understand and interact with web page content using AI technology. The extension's sole purpose is to:

• Analyze the content of web pages you visit and generate intelligent summaries
• Enable conversational interactions with page content through an AI assistant
• Store your conversation history locally for your reference

This extension is designed exclusively for these purposes and does not collect, transmit, or share your personal data with third parties (except for the AI service providers you configure).

Permission Usage Justification

This extension requests the following permissions, each used for specific functionality:

1. storage Permission

• Purpose: Save extension settings and conversation history in local browser storage
• Justification: Stores your AI provider configurations, API keys (encrypted), conversation histories, user preferences (language, panel position, etc.), and domain filtering rules
• Data Scope: All data is stored locally in your browser and is never uploaded to any server

2. host_permissions: <all_urls> Permission

• Purpose: Run content scripts on all websites to display the extension interface
• Justification: Enables the extension to inject its user interface (overlay panel) on any webpage. Content scripts are automatically injected but remain inactive until you click the extension bubble to open the panel
• Data Scope: Content scripts run on pages you visit but do not process any data until you explicitly open the extension panel. No data is collected or transmitted automatically

Data Collection and Usage

Data Stored Locally

The following data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API:

• AI Provider Configurations: API keys, endpoint URLs, model names, and provider settings
• Conversation Histories: Chat conversations organized by URL, including messages and summaries (only saved when you actively chat with the extension)
• Summaries: Page summaries generated when you open the panel (only saved after generation, not automatically)
• User Preferences: Language settings, panel position preferences, domain filtering rules, user persona descriptions
• TTS Provider Configurations: Text-to-speech service settings (if configured)

Important: Conversation histories and summaries are only saved when you:

• Open the extension panel and generate a summary
• Send messages in a chat conversation
• Explicitly interact with the extension

No data is saved automatically without your interaction.

All stored data remains on your device and is never transmitted to our servers or any third-party servers (except for the AI service providers you configure).

Data Transmission

Important: Data is only processed when you actively use the extension by opening the PageSage panel. The extension does not automatically process page content in the background.

When you open the PageSage panel (by clicking the extension bubble):

• Page Content: Text content extracted from web pages is sent only to the AI service providers you configure (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) to generate summaries and answer questions
• API Keys: Used solely for authentication with your configured AI service providers
• Text-to-Speech: If enabled, text content is sent to your configured TTS service provider (e.g., ElevenLabs) to generate audio

Data Processing Behavior:

• Summaries and presets are generated only when you click the extension bubble to open the panel
• No data is processed automatically in the background
• No API calls are made until you explicitly open the extension panel

Data NOT Collected

We do NOT collect:

• Your browsing history (except for conversation histories you explicitly save when using the extension)
• Your personal information or identity
• Your passwords or other sensitive credentials
• Any data from websites you visit without your explicit interaction (opening the extension panel)
• Any data transmitted to third parties (except for the AI service providers you configure)
• Tab information or browsing activity (the extension does not request or use the tabs permission)

Third-Party Services

This extension requires you to configure and use third-party AI service providers (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or compatible services). When using these services, your data will be processed according to the privacy policies of those service providers. Please review the privacy policies of the AI service providers you use:

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party AI service providers. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of these services complies with their terms of service and privacy policies.

User Controls

You have full control over your data:

• On-Demand Processing: The extension only processes page content when you explicitly open the panel by clicking the extension bubble. No automatic processing occurs
• Domain Filtering: Configure which domains the extension should work on through the settings page
• Data Deletion: Delete conversation histories at any time through the history page or extension settings
• API Key Management: Add, modify, or delete your API keys at any time through the settings page
• Disable Extension: Disable or uninstall the extension at any time, which will stop all data collection and processing

All data is stored locally, and you can delete it at any time by clearing your browser's extension storage or uninstalling the extension.

Data Security

• API keys are stored using Chrome's secure storage API
• All data remains on your local device
• No data is transmitted to our servers (we do not operate any servers)
• Data is only sent to the AI service providers you explicitly configure

Children's Privacy

This extension is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this Privacy Policy. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
